310, 314, 322, and 412

Another weird thing about Uni here at UBC (and I assume all over Canada and the US too) is the way they name their subjects. Sure, they all have normal names, but when you ask someone what subjects they're doing they'll say:

"Chem 310, 315, 324 and Phys 320"

Which, of course means nothing to me. It does, however, mean that I now know the numbers of my classes, whatever use that may be.

So I've decided that the worst time of the day for me is after my first lecture. I generally have a bit of a break, and it's the time when either people are in lectures (9am) or people are still sleeping if they're not in lectures. It's also the time when people are sleeping back home, and so there's not many people to chat to. It's also the time at the moment.

I guess I should be doing work, but once again I'm procrastinating by blogging.

What has happened since my last post? Not much actually. I went to church on Sunday, which was a 40 minute trip, but it was good. Met a few of Elaine's friends and went out for lunch with them. I bought a toaster too =D I haven't used it yet because I don't have a plate, and toast is decidedly more crumbly than bread, so I'll leave it for a little while.

Fell asleep after I came back from Church, and then did some study.

Yesterday was when my first assignment was due. Spent most of the morning doing it, and then handed it up an hour and a bit before it was due. Wasn't too bad a day, but I was very sleepy throughout. Watched a bit of football on tv as well - and its slower than the college stuff.

It's so boring. What's also stupid about it is that although it's very stop-start, you still have an unbeatable time-wasting mechanism at the end if you're in the lead. Like, something that the opposition cannot stop. No chance of a mistake, and no chance of the opposition getting the ball.

Anyhow, it's Tuesday morning, I'm bored, I've got an assignment due Thursday which I should do, but yeah, I don't feel like doing it.

I'll post again later. He's a picture of me with a moose:
Ok, not a real moose, but a moose in a mountie's outfit and a Canada t-shirt in the background. Taken at Granville island a couple of weeks ago.

See you all later =)

Hey... I call my classes by numbers as well. It's easier, since the numbers are much shorter than their actual titles. And they sound cooler too. And everyone else does it.

Whoops... turns out that last class is 421, not 412 =P

Apparently I don't know the numbers of my classes...

I was going to say that the idea of naming your courses by the numbers is ridiculous, because it expects that everyone in the uni knows what all of the course numbers are for all faculties.

Then I thought that maybe it would build faculty links, with your shared knowledge, etc.

Then I remembered that no-one talks to people who aren't in their faculty.

And of course, who knows what "Analysis and Integration", "Fields and Geometry" etc. are anyway, so it's not like giving (maths) subjects their names does anything anyway!

Brendan has, of course, always been one to do things that everyone else does...
